Louise Maude (1855-1939) was an English translator of Russian literature, born in Moscow to a British family and a native speaker of Russian. With her husband Aylmer she produced the translations of Tolstoy that he himself endorsed, she generally working from the Russian and he polishing the English. The couple knew Tolstoy personally and lived for a time in a community founded on his principles.
