John Ormsby (1829-1895) was an Anglo-Irish translator and travel writer, an early alpinist and a contributor to the Victorian quarterlies. His 1885 Don Quixote, accompanied by a long critical introduction and extensive notes, aimed at fidelity to Cervantes rather than the free adaptation of earlier English versions, and it is still among the most used translations.
