Isabel Florence Hapgood (1851-1928) was an American translator and writer who worked from Russian and French, and travelled in Russia where she met Tolstoy. She translated Hugo, Gogol, Turgenev and Dostoevsky, and produced the service book of the Russian Orthodox Church in English. Her 1887 Les Miserables was the first complete unabridged English version.
