Charles Kenneth Scott Moncrieff (1889-1930) was a Scottish writer and translator, wounded and decorated in the First World War, who made the first English translation of Proust's In Search of Lost Time. He also translated The Song of Roland, Beowulf and Stendhal. He died in Rome at forty, having completed all but the final volume of the Proust.
