Bram Stoker

1847–1912

Bram Stoker (1847-1912) was an Irish writer who spent most of his working life as business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London, running the affairs of the actor Henry Irving. He wrote fiction in the margins of that job, and published Dracula in 1897 after years of reading on eastern European folklore. Assembled entirely from journals, letters and cuttings, the novel was a modest success in his lifetime and became one of the most adapted stories ever written.
